The Madoo Conservancy is a living work of art: a horticulturally diverse, ever-evolving garden sanctuary located in Sagaponack, New York. Established in 1967 by painter, poet, and garden designer Robert Dash, Madoo blends artistic expression, literary history, and bold garden design into a singular cultural experience. Dash’s vision continues to shape Madoo as a dynamic environment, where color, form, and botanical experimentation intersect with the spirit of creativity and change.
Today, The Madoo Conservancy preserves and enhances this legacy through thoughtful stewardship of the historic structures and organically maintained landscape. From quincunx gardens and camellia groves to brightly painted follies and Asian-inspired ponds, Madoo invites exploration and interpretation in every season. It remains a gathering place for poets, artists, and garden lovers, a place where horticulture and the humanities thrive side by side. As Dash himself said, the garden was never meant to be fixed in amber, but to remain vital. Through public programs, exhibitions, and guided visits, Madoo continues to engage, educate, and inspire all who wander through its gates.
