Professional Development

Practical training built for Long Island arts organizations, taught by people who work in the field.

Most arts organizations on Long Island are running lean, and the skills gap is rarely about talent. It is about time and access. Our sessions are short, specific, and designed so you can apply what you learn the same week. Sessions are free for LIAA members.

Digital Accessibility for Arts Organizations(opens in new tab)

Practical Steps to Reach Every Audience

Wednesday, September 23 · 11:00 AM ET · Virtual
Presented with the Digital Accessibility Services division of The Viscardi Center

A digital presence is now the primary way audiences, patrons, and artists find and engage with the creative sector. Yet many websites, promotional materials, and digital portfolios remain unintentionally inaccessible to people with visual, hearing, or mobility impairments. This session offers immediate, actionable strategies to remove those barriers and simplify compliance.

You will leave with:

  • Core fundamentals — modern digital accessibility standards, and how inclusion supports organizational growth

  • Web and document design — structuring websites and converting files like PDFs to work with screen readers

  • Multimedia practices — captioning and CART for promotional video, live streams, and webinars

Presenter: Jim Corporal, Account Executive, Digital Accessibility Services, The Viscardi Center.

With an information technology solutions background of over 25 years spanning multiple industries, Jim is responsible for overseeing and growing Digital Accessibility Services at The Viscardi Center, which ensures that electronic documents, websites, and multi-media files are fully accessible to people with visual and physical disabilities using assistive technologies and screen-reading software.
